God's Got This!
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” ~ Matthew 6:26
My little 10-pound rescue dog, Gus, thinks he is the biggest and baddest dog on the block. His “mighty bark” protects us from strangers who dare to walk down our street, ring our doorbell, and especially from those dangerous intruders who dare to bring their noisy machines onto our property every week to mow the grass and blow away the leaves. When the mowers come, Gus goes nuts, barking, whining, and sometimes even howling at their audacity. He gets so overwrought that he runs from door to door, turning in circles and barking like a maniac. At those times, I pick him up, shut the blinds, and hold him on my lap until they leave. Only then will his breathing slow down and his body start to relax. If he only knew…!
As this frenzy replayed itself this morning, it occurred to me that sometimes I am a little bit like Gus. I worry about things I have no control over. I fret over them, run around in circles, and do everything I can to try to make them go away, all the while forgetting that if I would give those anxieties to my Father, I could spend that time resting in the comfort of His Presence instead of worrying myself to distraction.
God can handle any problem. He is bigger than sickness, lack of finances, and the opinions of others. He is our Source of help, hope, and all that is good. He delights to give us the desires of our hearts. When we sit and stew in anxious thoughts, we quench the peace of the Holy Spirit within us. If you are faced with worries of any kind today, go to your Heavenly Father and tell Him your concerns. Release to Him your need to be in control and ask Him to help you turn away from the worry that threatens to steal your peace. When you trust Him, He will take care of the problem and He will help you rest in His peace while He does the work.
Prayer: Father God, help me remember that You can handle anything. Help me release all my worries to You so that I can rest in Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Thank You for Your great love for me. Help me love and trust You as You deserve, I pray in Jesus’ mighty Name, amen.
In: I trust You, Lord,
Out: and I embrace Your peace.
