A Tale of Two Celebrations
“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.” ~ Philippians 2:9-11
I can only imagine it: In the earth above, Jesus, the pure and perfect Lamb of God, hanging on the cross, near death and gasping for breath. In addition to the bruises, slashes and gaping wounds that cover His body, He is covered and defiled with every sin, sickness, injury, shame, regret and depravity ever conceived by the enemy of Heaven.
At the same time, in the dark, smoldering, sulfurous bowels of Hell, Satan and his minions riotously celebrate in raucous, chaotic abandon, believing their ultimate victory is at-hand. Jesus cries out, “Father, why have You forsaken me?” catapulting the hoardes of hell into wildly frenzied celebration as they cackle wickedly, gloating in anticipation of their final victory.
Finally, in total surrender, Jesus utters, “It is finished.” That quiet whisper resounds throughout the bowels of the earth, causing the mad celebration to momentarily subside in eager anticipation; a moment frozen in time.
Just then, a blinding shaft of heavenly light pierces the putrid darkness, and issues in the perfect, spotless and oh-so-alive, mighty Lion of Judah, carrying the filthy burdens of the world upon his formidable shoulders. In stately majesty, He walks up to the Prince of Darkness, and with regal dignity, stares that defeated demonic aberration into quivering submission before Him. Jesus shakes free of his burden, and casts it before him, saying, “This belongs to you.” At the sound of His voice, the demons around them scream and grovel in abject terror as their unholy leader bows trembling before his Vanquisher. Then, with a mighty roar, Jesus proclaims, “And you have something that belongs to me.” Suddenly, the sound of chains breaking can be heard echoing throughout the hellish chambers and the enemy’s captives begin to emerge from the fetid shadows, crying, “Jesus! Oh Lord our God! All praise, honor, glory and power to You, our Savior, God and conquering King! Thank You, thank You, thank You, Lord Most High!”
Suddenly, all of Heaven begins to resound with trumpet blasts as hundreds of thousands of voices erupt in mighty shouts and rapturous praises for the victorious King of Kings and Lord of Lords as He finally returns for His glorious homecoming celebration, accompanied by those He has redeemed. Choirs of angels sing, "Holy! Holy! Holy!" as thousands of voices shout His praises and proclaim His glory. Jesus Christ, the Holy One of Israel, the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judah has won the victory! Let all of Heaven and earth proclaim His glory! All honor, praise and glory to Jesus, our King!
Your life holds incredible value for the One who loves you so much He was willing to die to purchase your soul back from humankind’s ultimate enemy. He is the only One who could pay that ransom. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, whether you “feel” it or not, never doubt for a moment that you have been given complete dominion over the enemy of your soul. That battle was won almost 2,000 years ago. Oh saints of God, if you only knew the power you carried!!! Jesus has won the victory and God has adopted you as His beloved child, giving you all of the authority and power He wielded at the moment He conquered death, sickness and sin. He told His disciples, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10:8) Those words are for all of His disciples - including us. He would not have told us to do that without giving us the power and authority to accomplish it.
Believe it. Receive it. Live it!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You so much for what You have done for us! Open our minds to know, receive, grasp and own Your Truth. Saturate us with a supernatural awareness of Your Presence so we will come to know the power and authority that reside within us through Your indwelling Holy Spirit. When we pray for the sick, give us an attitude of expectancy to see healing accomplished! When we pray for strongholds and addictions to be broken, help us see the release that only You can give. Enlighten us and help us experience the power and authority You have made available to us so we can glorify You, the Author, Creator, Savior and Lord of our lives. Draw us ever closer to Your heart, Father. Fill our hearts with Your love and Your faith, fill our minds with Your thoughts, fill our mouths with Your words, open our ears to hear Your voice, and open our eyes to see every opportunity we have to glorify You. We love You, praise You, worship and adore You. We live to bring delight to Your heart. Purify us, Lord, with the blood of Jesus and let our lives be a pleasing and comfortable place for Your Holy Spirit to dwell. We ask all of this in accordance with Your good and perfect will in the matchless, perfect and mighty Name above all names, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Lamb of God, the Lion of Judah, our Lord & Savior, amen.
“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” Matthew 28:18-20
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17
