How Much is Too Much...?
“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” ~Matthew 10:8
If you were offered the chance to bring complete healing to someone – perhaps a child, your spouse, or even a friend – what would you be willing to give in order to make that happen? Would you be willing to let God transform your life in a permanent way? What if He asked you to give up some of your favorite foods, drinking alcohol, smoking, or maybe you would be asked to awaken at 4:00 am every day for the rest of your life? Or, maybe you would have to give up your pride and be willing to risk appearing foolish to the people who know you. Maybe you would have to step out of your comfort zone and approach strangers you would never otherwise consider even talking to. What would you be willing to do to give someone a new life that is completely free from disease, addiction, disability or even death?
A momentary sacrifice is one thing, but allowing your life to be so radically changed that it is transformed into something completely different than the life you consider to be who you are – that is an entirely different matter. That is a much higher calling. Not a lot of people are willing to do that. But if we only knew what Jesus has made possible, we would do it willingly, gladly, gratefully, for the opportunity to redeem the life of that afflicted person we love so much.
Many of us grew up hearing “Jesus gave up his life…” and we tend to think, “Yeah, but He was God.” Which is true – God lived in Him – but He was also completely human with the same limitations we have. What set Jesus apart was His close relationship to God, His Father…our Father in Heaven. He lived a perfect life because He knew He was born for a higher calling. He came to destroy the sin, sickness and death that Satan introduced into the world that God had created…for us.
God will never ask more of you than you are able to give, and He will bless you exponentially more than the value of any sacrifice He may ask of you. If He asks you to start getting up early to have a quiet time, He – the God of all Creation – will meet you there. If He asks you to give up certain foods or other guilty pleasures, He will give you better health, energy to spare, and freedom from addiction. If He asks you for your time or money, He will multiply those things in mind-bending returns you will be hard-pressed to believe. If He asks you for your complete devotion, He will fill Your heart so full that it will feel like it is going to burst with love, joy and peace. If you seek Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, He will bless your life in unimaginable ways. But when you find Him, you will discover that the biggest, most overwhelming blessing of all is just knowing Him and experiencing His love.
How do I know this? Because He has done it for me. I am all-in, 100% submitted, willing to appear foolish, or to do whatever He asks…not for what I can get, but because I have experienced His loving Presence in ways I cannot express, and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever known. I love Him with all of my heart. My greatest desire is to delight His heart and do His will. I want a smile to fill His face every time He thinks of me. Every day, I give back to Him everything He has given me – life, health, relationships, finances, etc. – trusting that He can bring something of value out of this life I lived so selfishly for so many years. He has given me a new life and a new purpose that I love, and I give it all back to Him, willingly, gladly and gratefully, for what He has promised to do through me. He has asked me for some hard sacrifices, but when I have obeyed, He has more than made up for any momentary discomfort I have experienced. The gifts and rewards He has given me are already amazing, and He has only just begun to pour the results of His promises into my life…and through my life into the lives of others!
So, I ask you again…what are you willing to submit to Him in order to receive immeasurably more than you could ever ask or imagine in return? If you don’t know, ask Him to help you figure it out. He’s waiting for you with a heart full of love…
Prayer: Father God, thank You for loving me and revealing Yourself to me so I can love You, in return. Thank You for filling my heart with Your love and Your faith. I want to trust You so completely that I am willing to obey whatever You ask of me. Help me know, receive, understand and integrate Your Truth into my heart, mind and soul so that I will be willing to step out in faith and allow You to work miracles and wonders in my life and through my life for the benefit of others. I want more of You, Lord! Let me never be satisfied or complacent with what I have, but ignite a burning passion within my soul to grow deeper in my relationship with You every day until that glorious day when I finally see You face-to-face. Ultimately, Lord, let my life so honor You that every act, every thought, every intention of my heart will glorify You in the eyes of those who witness Your miraculous works as You live and act through me. Let me be a living testimony of Your great love for Your children. I love You with all of my being and give myself to You fully so Your purpose and Your plan will be accomplished in my life. Your are my Creator, God, Savior & King! You are my Healer, my Provider, my Teacher, my wise Counselor, my constant Companion and my dearest, most trusted and beloved Friend. You are my Person, Jesus! Let Your will be done in my life. It is in Your matchless and almighty Name I pray, amen.
