The Key to Unlock Every Gift
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these..." John 14:12
God created the world with words. He spoke all of creation into existence. You might say, “Yeah, but He’s God! Of course He can do that.” But the truth is, words hold power of which we are completely unaware in the natural realm. The Bible says that words hold the power of life and death. In fact, Jesus, Himself, is known as the “Word” in the Bible:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” John 1:1-4
The Bible tells us that our tongue is the most powerful member in our body. Just like a bit in a horse’s mouth forces it to obey the rider, or the tiny rudder of a ship steers the entire vessel, the tongue can bless - or corrupt - your whole body and set the course of your life…for good or bad. Did you know that you can actually bring down a curse on something or someone by the words you speak about them…even yourself?
Getting a new perspective on the words we speak can literally change our lives. I believe that is one of the reasons prayer is such a critical element of our Christian faith. In fact, I have recently learned that the gift of speaking or praying in tongues is the key that unlocks the powerhouse of all the other spiritual gifts. If you grew up (as I did) thinking that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit - tongues, prophecy, interpretation of tongues, faith, healings, miracles, wisdom, knowledge and discerning of spirits - are just the currency of old Biblical characters and “holy rollers”, think again! The Bible tells us these are the gifts that God gives us when we receive Christ as our Savior, and are baptized in the Holy Spirit. It is like someone gave you a million dollars in your bank account but you don't know how to write the checks. The enemy would have you think this is a load of hogwash because he is scared to death of the power behind them. When you choose to trust the Holy Spirit to pray through you in His own prayer language, your prayer goes directly to God’s ear. I can assure you that when I learned this, it was an eye-opener - and a life-changer - for this little Southern Baptist-raised girl!
If you have not received the gift of a prayer language, please consider praying and asking God to open your mind and break any stronghold or preconceived notion you might have about it so you can step into the amazing gifts that the enemy has stolen from you. Then, get ready to experience the power of God working in your life like never before!
So…how many careless, negative or hateful words do you think you have spoken in your lifetime? If you are like me, there are too many to count. But that is in your past…you don’t have to be that person anymore because God is the only one who can tame the tongue. Ask Him to open your mind and reveal His Truth to you about this issue. Ask Him to break every stronghold in your life and let the Holy Spirit fill your mouth with His heavenly prayer language. Your tongue holds the key to God’s destiny for you.
If you have questions about the gift of tongues, check out Robert Morris’ message on this most important gift at www.theblessedlife.com. Under the “Watch” tab, click on the series entitled The God I Never Knew, and listen to the message entitled “Does He Speak in Tongues?” (The message begins at the 3:50 minute mark if you want to skip the music.)
Prayer: Father God, thank You for the gifts of Your Holy Spirit. Help us to know, understand, believe and accept the Truth of Your Word. Holy Spirit, fill our minds with Your thoughts, our hearts with Your desires and our mouths with Your prayer language. Break every stronghold of unbelief so we can step into the power and authority You have given us to utilize every spiritual gift You intended for all of Your children to possess through our salvation in Jesus Christ. Baptize us in Your Holy Spirit and fill us with Your love so You can accomplish Your divine plan through us. We ask all of this in Jesus’ name, amen.
“For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people, but to God.”
1 Corinthians 14:2
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Ephesians 6:18
"Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed…There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them…To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.” 1 Corinthians 12:1, 4, 8-11
“And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.” Matthew 12:36
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:12-14
“When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” James 3:3-6
