Into Each Life...
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
The late spring air is unseasonably cool for Texas, and feels moist and clean on my face. Beyond the protective cover of my patio, the early morning is wet and quiet with a gentle mist that is slowly strengthening into a shower. Big fat raindrops splash at the patio’s edge, forcing me to reluctantly move inside, but I decide to leave the door open so I can still enjoy the freshening breeze and the smell of the rain...one of my favorite fragrances. The wind picks up suddenly and the sky opens. Thunder booms with a simultaneous flash of lightning that sends my puppies scurrying in from the patio to hide under the table by my feet. I reach down to pet them and softly tell them it’s OK; so they lie down without a whimper, reassured that they are safe. Not minding the brief interruption, I set my Bible aside and shut the door, watching the rain from the dry haven of my kitchen, silently inviting Jesus to join me as my thoughts wander.
Sunny days are nice, but who doesn’t love the occasional rainy day? Does it ever rain in Heaven, Lord? Are there things from this life that I will miss once I’m there? It’s hard to imagine, because…well…it’s Heaven! I guess I wouldn’t mind giving up cozy, lazy, rainy days if my mind and body no longer required renewing; especially with no more thoughts that need to be explored and sorted-out in quiet contemplation. After all, we chase those thoughts to find understanding or wisdom, or to sort-out some struggle we are wrestling with; but in Heaven, our knowledge will be complete and problems will not exist. What an amazing concept!
When the storms of this life rage, just like my puppies, I run to my Master…the One whose presence fills me with peace, comfort and security, even in the midst of the storm. In His presence, I find overwhelming love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and security. How wonderful it will be to always feel safe, content, thoroughly understood and accepted…loved for who I am. To have no more pain, no more suffering, sickness, negativity, struggle or want. No fear of enemies who threaten my life and my peace, either externally or internally. Hope will be a useless emotion because all of our hopes and dreams will be fulfilled, fully realized and ours to enjoy for all of eternity. We will live in the midst of love, joy, and perfection forever. He’s coming soon…until then, please share the message of His love with everyone you know. It is not His will that anyone should live – or die – without knowing Him and receiving His precious gift of love and eternal life.
Prayer: Father God, thank You so much for Your constant love and faithfulness that brings me peace and security in the midst of my storms. Thank You for the promise of Heaven and eternal life that will be mine, through Jesus. Lord, I cannot begin to imagine all that You endured to give me the right to be adopted into Your family, and to share eternity with You as Your beloved child, but I will forever sing Your praises with thanksgiving and love for that honor and blessing. You are my God and King, my wise Counselor, Protector, Healer, Provider, constant Companion and most beloved and trusted Friend. You are my person, Jesus, and I cannot wait to see You face-to-face. Oh, what a glorious day that will be! I love You and praise You with all of my heart, it is in Your precious name I pray, amen.
“Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’ He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!’” Matthew 8:24-27
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23
“May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” Ruth 2:12
“How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Psalm 36:7
“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31
“The third time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep.’” John 21:17
“The Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, ‘This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ Then Jesus told them this parable: ‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.’” Luke 15:2-7
