Let It Shine

“Let your light shine for all to see.

For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you.”

Isaiah 60:1

The lamp flickers as I begin my quiet time. It is old and the switch is loose from years of use, but I love this lamp too much to replace it. It was my mother’s, and the warmth of its light surrounds me like a gentle hug while I pray and read my Bible each morning. Instead of brightness overhead, I prefer the intimacy of this gently-lit cocoon in the pre-dawn moments with God while all else is dim and quiet. The lamp's faulty connection makes me think of my own light and how it can fade and falter when I don’t keep my connectivity fresh and new.

Much like the electricity that flows through my old lamp, God’s light shines through me - at times bright, at times flickering, but sometimes his light is hardly evident at all, even though that is my purpose. Although the power source is there, the connection can become faint or faulty when I grow distant or unplug from the One who makes all things new. I know the problem lies with me because God never changes. He is always there, always faithful; I just need to re-connect so God's glory and love can brighten and enlighten the darkness around me.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!

Prayer: Precious Father, thank you for being my source of strength, peace, joy, hope and light for myself, and those you touch through me. I praise you for your unlimited power that fills and sustains me as long as I keep my eyes and my mind stayed on you. Help me to remain plugged in to you faithfully every day. Illuminate the world around me and the lives that you want to touch through me so the message of your great and wondrous love can be seen and heard by all who will listen...all of those who will draw near to seek you. Thank you for your message of love, hope, joy and light for this world that often seems so dark. Shine your light through me to eradicate the darkness around me. I give you all praise, honor and glory in Jesus' name, amen.
