One Thing

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

As I look over my prayer board it occurs to me that there are so many different needs, but the answer to every single request is the same: Jesus. While that may seem like a cliché, the truth of it runs deep. After all, clichés become commonplace sayings for a reason…they are generally based in truth. My prayer board holds requests and petitions for healing of sickness and/or relationships, salvation for lost loved ones, peace in the midst of anguish and suffering, personal strength, comfort in times of sorrow and sickness, encouragement in times of testing and uncertainty, wisdom and guidance for decisions ahead, provision in times of need, favor in career moves or business deals, blessings for families, babies and businesses…and those are just the personal needs.

In this hustle and bustle world, we want the quick fix, the easy answer, and the convenient truth, when what we really need most is the fullness of God to flood our hearts, minds and souls with an awareness of his presence. He is the answer to every problem, the key that unlocks every door, the One who calms every storm, the Light that gives direction to obscured vision, the answer to every question, and the peace that surpasses all understanding to allay every fear. He is El Shaddai, Almighty God, Creator and Master of all that exists, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Lord and Savior of those who accept him. He is the personification of truth, peace, wisdom, strength, patience, joy and love. If you ever needed any one of these things in your life, he is the best and most perfect source for all of it.

When we reach out to him, he is delighted to touch us back, whether we feel him or not. Every. Single. Time. When we look for him, his Word promises that we will find him when we seek him with all of our hearts. Why is it that he is so often our last resort? We so frequently say, “All I can do is pray,” when that is the best thing we can do and should be our first step in approaching any problem; the one we search out immediately when we encounter any challenge. He is the only perfect remedy for whatever you are facing. God listens and he really does answer. I know what I am talking about because I see answers to prayers every single day…but then, when I pray, I believe he will answer and I watch to see what will happen.

This past weekend a friend was supposed to pick up some upholstered furniture from me pulling an open-air trailer. Saturday was the only possible day we could both do it, but the weatherman was predicting a 90% chance of rain. It had rained all Friday night, and Saturday morning brought still more rain. In our respective homes we prayed that God would give us a “window of protection” so there would be no rain while she moved the furniture. Although we had wrapped it in plastic, we knew that in a downpour, it would not have helped much. We didn’t ask him to stop all of the rain, just to stop the rain from falling on them as they moved the furniture. Guess what? Not one drop of rain fell on that furniture from the time they picked it up until they got it moved into her home over 3 hours later! When it was safely in her home, the floodgates opened once again. THAT is my God...and he is YOUR God, too! Some might call it coincidence, but answers like that consistently happen when we pray. Try it and see. What do you have to lose?

Prayer: Father, thank you so much for the assurance that you hear and answer our prayers when we seek you with all of our hearts. I want to have sickness-healing, mountain-moving, miracle-working faith, and you are my Source. You are my first, my last, my everything, and I praise you with all of my heart. Please open the hearts and minds of those who read this message and fill them with your encouragement to ask openly for their needs to be met as they seek your presence, then help them see the answers when you give them. I want the world to know you fully so they can enjoy the wonderful, glorious gift of your love. I am filled with joy in your presence as I lift up every eye that reads these words, every life that is touched by your message, asking that you would reveal yourself to them in a new and amazing way. Help them recognize the answers that you give to their prayers so they will know without a doubt that you are their Source. Open our hearts, minds and souls, Lord Jesus, and fill us with the fullness of Your Holy Spirit. You know us better than we know ourselves. Reveal yourself to us, draw us to you and open the floodgates of your love as you unlock the doors of our hearts to set us free. As we encounter the overwhelming bliss of your glorious presence, baptize us in your love as tears of joy cover our faces. Once we experience you, we are forever changed and will never be satisfied with anything less than the fullness of you. We will always be compelled to seek that rapture again and again, desiring only to walk with you and bask in the light and awe of your glory. We praise you, worship and adore you. Speak, Lord, you servant is Jesus' name, amen.
