Let There Be Light
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” ~ 1 John 1:5
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” ~ Genesis 1:27
Have you ever loved someone so much you just couldn’t hug them close enough? You wanted to hold them so tight that you could almost melt into them. Books written by people who have experienced Heaven say that our spiritual bodies will actually be able to merge when we hug each other; fully separate, yet fully one. This earth is not our home, and we are more than bodies that happen to have a soul. We are spirits clothed in a body; beings of light that inhabit temporary frames of flesh and bone who are just passing through this earth to fulfill specific purposes before rejoining our loving Creator to enjoy greater things to come. There, we will know and be fully known far beyond the limited knowledge that is possible for us here, just like the Holy Spirit lives in us and knows everything about us right now…and loves us beyond our comprehension.
Hundreds of times in my life I have thought, if I could just take my knowledge and put it into their head; if they only knew...! But we cannot accurately convey our thoughts without words. Personal knowledge gained through experience has depth, layers, and emotion; it is experiential awareness. But the information that we communicate through words often falls short. You can tell them what you know; they can read about it, observe, and even empathize, but at the end of the day, if they have not lived it, they cannot fully grasp it. You can never feel authentically accepted and loved until you are open, vulnerable, and fully perceived, and the only one who can do that right now is God.
In Heaven we will have beautiful, incorruptible bodies that will never age, sicken, or die, and we will live in a place of perfection far beyond our concept of that word. The Bible tells us that the experience of God’s presence, alone, would be more than our physical bodies could endure. His love is so overpowering that our human hearts would burst at the magnitude of it. But, unhampered by this flesh, our bodies of light in Heaven will be completely infused with the boundless magnitude of love that is God, Himself. That is just one of the many reasons Heaven will be… heavenly!
Prayer: Father God, we yearn to experience life with you in Heaven. Aside from having bodies that will never hurt, age, sicken or die, we long to know the wonder of your presence, face-to-face, and the unrestrained joy of your love. Open our hearts and minds to experience your glory to the fullest extent possible here. We want to know you, love you and feel the beauty of being filled to overflowing with your Holy Spirit. What a joy and privilege to be known and loved by you! We love you, praise and honor you, in Jesus’ name, amen.
“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:1-6
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
“The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 22:3-5
“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Revelation 21:22-27
